**UPDATE: We are not currently accepting applications on Lingoci as we are growing our newer site, Languatalk.com, which allows you to set your own rate and show reviews. You can check it out and apply to teach Spanish here.**
Please see below for answers to common questions. If your question is not covered below, feel free to contact us through this form.
Below are some of the requirements for teaching Spanish on our platform.
Firstly, Spanish must be your native language.
Another thing you will need is some teaching experience. Tutors with experience teaching Spanish online will have a higher chance of success. If you have great reviews on another site, this will also improve your chances of success.
A formal teaching certificate will increase your chances of success, but is not required. This is because we also look at tutors’ wider experience and abilities.
If your level of English is below B1, you may have a lower chance of success.
To tutor Spanish online you’ll need a very reliable internet connection, a functioning microphone, and a webcam. Note that newer computers often have built-in microphones and webcams. However, using an external camera or microphone typically provides better audio/video quality. Your internet connection must have a download/upload speed of at least 2Mbps. You can test it here.
You’ll also need to be willing to use Skype and Zoom for teaching lessons. These video calling tools are easy to set up and use. We provide instructions for Zoom in case you haven’t used it before.
Lingoci is a language tutoring platform. Students from all over the world use Lingoci to connect with experienced, native tutors who provide customised and enjoyable lessons.
You will teach Spanish online via Skype and Zoom (1-on-1). These tools allow tutors to provide a customised, interactive learning experience that is similar to learning through face-to-face lessons.
This depends on many factors including your performance, site traffic, your availability, and how popular your profile is. Some tutors just do a few hours each week, earning $100-$300 USD per month, whilst those who teach Spanish online more intensively earn $800 to $1600 USD.
You will need to give free trial sessions to gain students. These last just 30 minutes and give you and the student an opportunity to get to know each other.
Students can reschedule or cancel lessons up to 24 hours before the start time. Tutors sometimes choose to make exceptions for students & allow changes after the 24h cut off. Nevertheless, we have this policy to protect tutors from being messed around.
We have simple, intuitive booking software that allows students to schedule lessons easily. Tutors often report that they prefer our site to others because the booking system is easier to use. They can easily adjust their availability and view their students’ details. We provide support to help with any issues.
As with other online platforms, if you teach Spanish online via Lingoci you will be a self-employed, independent freelancer/contractor, rather than an employee or partner. This means you’ll be responsible for dealing with your own taxes, work documents etc. and you’ll be free to teach how you wish and set your own hours. Note, we don’t provide advice on how to handle self-employment matters as we don’t have sufficient knowledge of how every country works.
55 minutes. This allows you to take a 5 minute break if you have back-to-back lessons.
Unlike other companies, we will try to send your fees in your currency and directly to your bank account if possible – rather than forcing you to lose 4-6% through Paypal commission and a bad exchange rate.
There are many websites that allow you to tutor Spanish online from home. Most tutors teach via our site for a long time. We think this is for a few reasons. Firstly, we treat tutors well. We provide support promptly with any issues they’re facing. We help out when we can. We’ve heard of some companies exploiting tutors, for example only sending their earnings when they hit a certain number of hours. We would never do something like this. Secondly, we don’t force tutors to compete on price in a race-to-the-bottom. And thirdly, tutors tend to gain serious students who continue learning with them for a long time. They also comment that our booking technology is easier to use than on other websites. Several tutors also work on other websites and simply sync their calendar, so they can increase their teaching hours.
Lingoci has built a strong reputation in the online tutoring industry. We therefore need tutors to meet certain standards.
You’ll need to deliver high quality lessons that are adapted to your students’ needs. You’ll also need to be organised. This includes:
Updating your availability calendar regularly so that students can book lessons without issues.
Responding to messages/emails from your students in a reasonable time period.
Turning up to your lessons on time – not 5 minutes late.
Yes, you’ll need to create a 2 to 4 minute video and we’ll give you instructions for this. There won’t be a text profile for you to complete as we only show very basic info.
If we have enough demand to accept another tutor and you pass the application stage, we will contact you. If we don’t currently have enough demand to accept another tutor, we may contact you at a later date. Unfortunately, we don’t have time to respond to all applications.
